Been a console gamer my whole life. The only game I ever played with mouse and keyboard was the original Half Life a few decades ago. Today I bought Doom 2016 on my PC. Was a bit intimidating switching over to the new controls, but it's been worth it so far.

I never worry about using my mimic tear. It's a mechanic designed for those of us who love soulsborne games but don't have cat like reflexes. You see people boasting about finishing the game in 5 minutes while simultaneously solving the economic crisis and reading a novel. Good luck to them but for me I need the help. It's your game and your loyal followers don't judge like the 'Git gud' crowd would.

Blew up the institute and then I remembered oh sh*t what about virgil? But my last useable save sets me back about 4 hours so I'm not going back. Still I feel kinda bad...

Also, marking enemies only works in "Game Journalist" difficulty.

The crossbow is useful through practically the entire game, it just takes a bit of work to get its usefulness up. Once you unlock the incendiary arrows, you'll never use molotov to clear nests again. The incendiary bolts can set a nest ablaze from well over 100 meters away, and the zombies inside can't even detect you from that far away. You just have to get the right angle which can be tricky sometimes. Make sure to stock up on that nest residue when you do it because the residue bolts are pretty OP for clearing camps. I'm always blown away by how many pe9ple have said "I ignored the crossbow bolts until the endgame" or "until my second playthrough." I laways use residue bolts to turn enemy snipers and shotgunners. They usually take out 2 or sometimes 3 other enemies before going down, so that's 3 or 4 kills for one single specialty bolt fired.

Just before starting the DLC I picked up the 'Rivers of blood' sword. I levelled it to +7. It's supposed to be the toughest weapon in the base game. In the DLC it does average damage. This DLC is tough, there's no doubt.

I feel that intelligence is no advantage here. For instance peeps say 'Use this item and the fight is easy' Great, and if you have time to swap to that item, position yourself perfectly to use it and then use it. Unfortunately the guy beating on you with a massive sword and the dog behind you and the environmental dangers mean you're dead before you even select it. Anyone could beat anything if you could use intelligence to plan a strategy but this game is more about instinct and running away if you need to think.

Just watching the 2nd half for now, since I haven't been to that first area yet. Busy exploring the southern mountain area. The dlc is huge and there are so many areas on different levels, I'm really taking my time and having fun. Thanks for the shout-out 😊 I got a full set of that gorgeous Mesmer black & gold armour today! I'll need that for my strength boy char 💪😍 since my girl runs about in a dress lol.

I noticed that, once you engage with a boss outdoors, they are ruthless and chase you forever. I got too close to the 'Wicker man' type fire giant. He chased me for ages and his aoe can reach you no matter how far you run.

I lost about 270000 runes in this DLC within 3 hours. After the stream I went back to main game and killed a Dragon to restore my self esteem. 80000 runes, nice. Guess what happened next? I lost them too! Elden ring and it's DLC are brutal.

Re. inventory: to read more about any item, you just press 'more' to show the FULL item description. Square button, I think, on PlayStation, X on Xbox. So, yes, there it does tell you what each recipe crafts. You don't need to take the recipes to a NPC. All those misc items you pick up, you can craft some extremely useful things with in the crafting menu. 'Soft Cotton' for fall damage negation for example, are a favourite of mine.

Little tip for the beginning big enemy - best to not charge your weapon as he's charging you, as they'll just hit you in the process. If you've got a thrust weapon, you can do a thrust attack as they charge you, and then they'll walk right into the weapon and get hurt 🙌 Besides that, move out of the way/to their side cause they hit like a truck. Spacing and positioning is key to these games 👌 not levels. Glad you're having fun, Sam. I'm avoiding social media like the plague as idiots spoiling things everywhere and I only watch you play (since I'm ahead of you) and give you some channel support 😊❤ ...and giggle when you yeet yourself into lava!🔥

Re. debuff, I'm pretty sure I read in its item description that the Lion-Dragon helm you're wearing debuffs your Focus. I saw another armour item that does that, too, but can't remember what it is off the top of my head.

I’m liking the playthrough - it’s showing so many areas that other let’s play streamers miss. I like the slight echo when you read out the ghost quotes is a nice touch.

You're definitely not under-levelled for the dlc, Sam. It's recommended to be 120-150+ so no worries there. Yes, the dlc is tough, but FromSoft games have always been hard, especially their dlcs. Shadows is about on par with the excellent Old Hunter's dlc from Bloodborne, and the excellent Ringed City from Dark Souls 3, but I'm sure the enemies are hitting a bit harder. Makes me extremely frustrated and saddened by these idiots review-bombing Shadows for being too hard 😟 FromSoft have always been fantastic developers, and tough but pretty fair, and really love their game worlds and want their players to enjoy them! The reason why you couldn't summon your Mimic is because you're not inside the boss room. This is the fight I had really bad lag on, so hopefully that'll be smoothed out soon. The Lionel armour set is one of the top strongest in the game, so you are definitely all set! Glad you're having a blast 😊❤

I'll watch as much of this as you choose to play. I never got attached to this game. So, no, I've not watched the other gamers at it. I'll watch your playthrough for the scenery and your sense of humor.
